The Alabama Scottish Rite Foundation assists school districts by providing grants to teachers who have been accepted to one of Alabama’s accredited Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) training programs. Teachers accepted for study at one of the accredited CALT training programs in Alabama may apply to the Alabama Scottish Rite Foundation for a tuition grant. We are making it financially possible for many Alabama teachers to become Certified Academic Language Therapists, providing the intensive intervention needed by students with dyslexia.
From 2001 through 2021, we provided dyslexia evaluations for children at no cost to families. In 2022, when the Alabama Literacy Act began requiring that schools identify students with dyslexia literacy needs, we discontinued our evaluation services to focus on teacher training. We shifted our focus to supporting teachers who wished to become dyslexia therapists to provide the dyslexia intervention needed by Alabama students.
The services of Dr. Denise Gibbs, Director of the Alabama Scottish Rite Foundation Learning Centers, are available for teacher workshops. School officials may email Dr. Gibbs at: [email protected].
The response to these offerings has been very positive as schools work to meet the special needs of students with dyslexia.
